“You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.” - Jon Kabat-Zinn
Anxiety and sadness can be normal feelings but what do we do when they feel overwhelming, out of control, and as if they are running our lives? My goal as a helper is to not just "hear you," but intentionally listen and understand your world with acceptance and compassion. I approach therapy as a collaborative effort where we will work as a team through life's difficulties and transitions to find hope and peace. We will work together to find the right skills for you to be able to manage thoughts and feelings that often feel chaotic, distressing, and destructive. We can work to practice skills to be able to take more control over our thoughts and feel more powerful.
I approach therapy applying mindfulness principles to the framework of cognitive behavioral therapy to help with stress, anxiety and depression. I believe that we must first be aware and accepting of ourselves, just as we are, before we can work to make healthy, lifelong changes. From this place of awareness, we can begin to practice making more intentional decisions that lead us to our goals, dreams, and desires. Our power isn't in trying to control the world around us, yet, our power lies in our response to the world around us.
