Avarie Trent, M.A., QMHP, NCC
National Certified Counselor
I have been working with children and adults (ages 7 and up) in a multitude of diverse environments including school, community, group home, and rehabilitation centers. Most notably, I have worked on high trauma cases with a Child Advocacy Center, providing individual and family support to those effected by physical or sexual abuse. I am able to help families and survivors of abuse as they process their trauma and assist them in navigating through the criminal justice or family court systems. I have provided community based education on domestic violence and healthy relationship building.
Through my diverse work experience I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Trauma in Schools (CBITS), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Substance Abuse Counseling, and EMDR. I work to create a safe environment for clients to process by utilizing empathy, unconditional positive regard, and validation or reflection of feelings.
I specialize in PTSD and trauma disorders, however I have experience working with the following diagnosis as well: ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, DMDD, ODD, and Autism.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and my Master’s Degree in Human Developmental Counseling, specializing in clinical counseling, from the University of Illinois.
